Extra! Extra! Read All About It!!

Hello everyone!! I will just spare you the explanations about my hiatus and just get down to the nitty gritty.  On July 28th, there will be a hair and wellness expo taking place in Memphis, TN.  Naturals In The City Hair and Wellness Expo will encompass all things that lead to living a healthy lifestyle.  There will be workshops about maintaining natural hair, the process of going natural, and even a class devoted to tween and teen girls on self esteem and how it relates to natural hair.  We women know that positive self esteem starts at a very early age.  It only takes one incident, one person to make you feel less than you really are.  And that can haunt you for the rest of your life.

There will also be presenters there to teach about getting and maintaining a healthy body as well.  Because you can't just walk around with fabulous hair and ignore what's below your scalp.  This event is all about the total package.  Isn't that what it's all about?!  With African Americans leading the statistics in heart disease and diabetes, we need all the help we can get.  So you will definitely get that here.

This event will be held at Esplanade Memphis, located at 901 Cordova Station (off of Germantown Parkway) in Cordova, TN.  Tickets are priced at $10 until the day of the show. You can to the event web site at www.naturalsinthecity.com and purchase your tickets.  Or,  if you're in Memphis or the surrounding area, stop by A Natural Affair Beauty Lounge and purchase your tickets there.  I hope to see you there 'cause I'll definitely be there!!  Oh, and don't forget to spread the word :)

Who's In My City?

Hello all!!! A lot has happened since the last time I posted on my blog.  I'm in the process of moving, I am now gainfully employed (yay!!!), and I am going to begin the proper steps to begin graduate school (pray for me, yall.)  But, between all of that, I have managed to do some window shopping.  There's ALWAYS time for window shopping :).

Since I'm no longer in school (right now), I will have to rename my post from Who's On My Campus to Who's In My City.  I'd been toying with the idea of changing the name for some time now because whenever I would be out and about, I would always see  well dressed people.  And I would be dying to take their picture, but I didn't know what I would do with those pictures afterwards.  So, here's the first installment of Who's In My City?

The first person to grace the WIMC post was spotted last Sunday while my friends and I were in Target.  My friend Melonee spotted him because of his spiffy glasses and cute hat.  Once he came over and we all began talking, we learned more about his background.  And I must say he is much more than nice frames and a straw fedora. Edward Bogard is the founder of SoGiv, a non-profit organization that raises global awareness through apparel and footwear that uses their sale funds and donates it to worthy causes such as cancer, homelessness, HIV/AIDS awareness, cruelty against animals and many, many more.  Their slogan is "Every pair SOld, we GIVe...SoGIVe."  Now, is there anything more stylish than helping others? Of course, not.  Helping others NEVER goes out of style and it always fits.  Now, on to the pics!!!

Here is the stylishly handsome Edward himself donning a tee shirt with his organization's name on it.  His casually cool outfit is set off with stylish glasses and a straw fedora hat (very on trend right now.)

This is a picture of the bracelet he sells for SoGiv.  It complements his red sneakers and gives a finished look to his outfit.

These sneakers are also apart of his SoGiv clothing line.

Please check out this You Tube video for more information on SoGiv and how you can help.  Or, visit their website at www.sogiv.org.

Adventures in Window Shopping

Since I told you all briefly about doing some window and actual shopping, I decided to talk about one of my top 5 favorite stores:  Old Navy.  I met up with a couple friends this time around and we decided to see what was new.  Old Navy is getting everyone prepared for spring with rich, bright colors, bold prints, and what seems to be a season filled with cute dresses.  If you don't find anything to wear there, then you're just hard to please (just kidding :), unless you REALLY are hard to please.)  I suggest hitting up the clearance racks first to take advantage of great pieces to add to your wardrobe.  I promise you won't be disappointed.  My first model is wearing pieces from the clearance rack, with the exception of the yellow tank.

Even though these were considered winter pieces, they could easily be carried over into spring.  I know you may be thinking this outfit has a lot going on.  But, I like it and I think it works.  Just look at it this way, if the temperature starts to get warm, you can lose the cardigan and just rock the skirt and tank.  I believe the total amount of this outfit was around $50.

Now, this next outfit is part of Old Navy's spring collection.  It is filled with great dresses that can take you from day to night with bold prints and cute shapes.  They can be dressed up or down with just a switch of a shoe, purse, and jewelery.

This is a fabulous little dress that just SCREAMS for warmer weather. I personally can't wait, but I know we're gonna get a freak snowstorm before spring actually gets here.  Anyway, this dress is priced around $33, so you can still afford to go out for dinner and drinks and not go broke.

I only snapped a couple of photos, but you get the gist of what's in the store.  If you're like me, you probably already shop there.  But, if you don't , what are you waiting for?  Until next time...

I know, I know...

Hello all!! I just wanted to let you guys know I'm still amongst the living.  I've been really busy this month with trying to find a new place to hang my hat, finding a new 9 to 5, and windowing shopping mixed with a little of actual shopping.  Between all of that, I decided to color my hair.  I have been an undercover redhead for a long time.  So when I finally took the leap to color my hair again, I only did what I know; go red.  I love my new color, but I think I wanna go redder next time.  I can hardly wait until my next touch-up :).  Of course I couldn't talk about the color without showing a picture.  **WARNING** Please pardon my freeform afro going on right about now.  Today was just one of those days where I just added moisturizer and finger fluffed.

Of course, my hair color was done by none other than Takeisha Berry-Brooks at A Natural Affair Beauty Lounge.  So, if you're in Memphis or the surrounding area, look her up online at www.anaturalaffair.com, or on FaceBook:  A Natural Affair Beauty Lounge.  She, and all the wonderful stylists will be glad to take care of you.  Until next time...

Adventures in Window Shopping

Since I was out and about looking for rental houses, I made an impromptu stop to one of my favorite stores, Target.  I hadn't been there in a while (suprisingly) and I must say I was excited about what I saw.  They have really brought their A game for Spring/Summer.  They had everything from waterproof trench coats, neon trimmed bags, stylish tote bags (on clearance), animal print shoes and bags, and even a dupe shoe that I know you've seen before.  When I saw all they had to offer, I had to whip out my camera and take pictures.  I often wonder what people are thinking when I'm in a store randomly taking pictures of their merchandise.  I hope they don't think I'm planning a heist after hours or something like that.  Anyway, let's take a look at what I saw, shall we?

How cute are these boots??!! I can definitely see these with a wide array of outfits.  The sky is the limit with these.

Every woman needs a pair of black heels in their shoe wardrobe.  These can be worn to work, out with the girls, to church, or a night out on the town with your significant other.  You can't go wrong with these and the price is right too.  Not to mention they come in other colors too.

And who doesn't need a leopard print of heels? If you already have a pair, there's nothing wrong with having a back up pair.  These can be worn with just about everything.

These heels will have you channeling your inner Dorothy.

And they also come in a wine colored faux suede.  Gorgeous!!!

These shoes are a good dupe to a pair of heels I recently tried on at a local store.  Both of which will remain nameless.  If you know who I'm talking about, you also know those shoes cost a pretty penny.  But, since these cost around $30, you can still afford to be on trend and be cute at the same time.

I had to try on these wedges when I saw them, and they are very comfy.  And at $30, you can afford to buy both pairs.

Can you believe these tote bags were on clearance for like $8??!! These would make great beach bags, or for the green ladies out there, stylish grocery bags.

This nice bag was also on clearance.  If you want to wear an animal print, but don't want to commit to an article of clothing or shoes, a bag is the best way to go.

And for those that love zebra print, Target's got you covered as well.

Neon is all the rage this spring and summer and Target is getting in on this trend as well.  I really like the hot pink on this backpack.

Trench coats are always in style.  Target has them in the traditional tan color.

For those ladies that like to spice things up, they also have them in red.  Loves it!!!

And they also come in spring appropriate yellow and always perfect black.  I wouldn't mind having one in each color.  But, as of right now, funds will not permit me to do so :(

 I. LOVE. THIS. HAT.  I have always wanted a floppy beach/summer hat.  Now they have them at Target, I've gotta get me one.  It comes in blue too.

Seeing all these cute accessories in Target definitely has me looking forward to warmer weather, sandals, and longer days.  But, until then, we've gotta deal with cold air, snow, and the day ending early.  Sigh...

Until the next post...

Wow, Where Did The Time Go?

Hello everyone!! I know you've heard it by now, but I would like to officially say Happy New Year!! We can leave behind all the good, and the bad, and focus on making ourselves better for 2012.  Last month was really exciting for me.  Besides celebrating Christmas with my family, I also received my Bachelor's of Arts degree in Communications.  Graduation was bittersweet for me.  I'd been working on this degree since 2005, and for various reasons (had my son, working full time jobs) I finally made it out this year.  That was the sweet part.  But now I have the daunting task of looking for a job (I've been unemployed since June 2011.)  That's the bitter part.  So for 2012, one of my main objectives is finding a job where I can utilize my degree.  I'm optimistic that I will find something; and even if it's not what I want, I can work it until something else comes along. I actually have a job interview on tomorrow, so wish me luck!!

So, I wanted to share some pictures with you of my family during our Christmas get-together at my Aunt's house.  I know, I know, but it's better late than never.  Just humor me and look at my pictures, please?! Lol!!

My Sis

My Nephew, His Girlfriend and My Son (he wanted to get in ALL the pictures)

I would've gotten a picture of my Daddy, but he was busy frying fish and chicken out on the carport.  Anyhoo, my sister called me Rosie the Riveter because of the headscarf I was wearing.  I really like it; it has a really silky feel to it with really nice colors of turquoise, charcoal gray, black, white, and navy. The only thing I don't like about it is I think it's for someone with really long or really thick hair because of the way it's made.  It's sort of bonnet like and when you tie it, it kinda flares out at the top (picture the top of a brown paper bag.) So I have to play with it to get it to look the way it's supposed to.  Anyway,  I'm also wearing my Old Navy chambray shirt (which I LOVE), and the navy blue wide-legged trousers from this post.  And to keep the look comfortable, I put on a pair of Mens Tretorn sneakers that I got from DSW for a whopping $10!!!! I saved over $50 by getting them on clearance.  So, here's a summary of what I'm wearing.

Headscarf:  Target $7
Earrings:     Cooper-Young Festival $1
Shirt:           Old Navy $15
Belt:            Target $16
Trousers:    Lane Bryant $60
Sneakers:   DSW $10

So, how did you spend your holidays or is it too late to ask? Lol...
